Volkswagen Henderson Makes Driving Fun Again

Many baby boomer’s first vehicle was a VW. The Beetle offered a economical vehicle that was also fuel efficient for the time. These little cars with the engine in the back were fun to drive and offered innovations not yet found in American cars. Today drivers can relive the fun of that first car when buying a Volkswagen Henderson vehicle.

For drivers in the 50s and 60s German engineering meant reliability. These little cars offered a low center of gravity and a welded body that was able to float on the water. Today, that same German engineering has even more to offer.

The first of the VWs were imported to the USA in 1949, however only two sold that year. Their popularity caught on and by 1955 over a million of the cars had sold in the USA. In 1972 the Beetle had outsold the Model T. By 1973 over 16 billion of the cars had sold. The chief selling feature of these vehicles was reliability.

The Beetle became a movie star in 1968. ‘Herbie, the Love Bug’ staring Dean Jones was the first in this line of movies. This particular vehicle seemed to have a mind of its own. Herbie, number 53 even made his appearance driving down Main Street USA in Disneyland.  Read More...
